Where to buy a cheap Lord of the Rings box set

With the upcoming release of The Hobbit films, there has been renewed interest in Peter Jacksons Lord of the Rings films. Combined with the recent release of the extended films on Blu-ray, now is the time to pick up the best bargains on either the Lord of the Rings DVDS or the cinematic versions of Lotr Blu Ray. This article will look at a couple of places where you can pick up the box sets cheaply.

Amazon

Amazon has a good selection of the Lord of the Rings movie DVDs and
Blu-rays. These range in price depending on what format you want them in. The extended DVDs are on sale from £16, the box set includes all three films plus the extras totalling 12 DVDs. The theatrical edition box set is available from £10. The theatrical Blu-rays are available individually at £8 or as a set for £15. The extended Blu-rays are recently released and available on Amazon from £42. If you are strapped for cash and don’t mind buying the used discs, Amazon also allows customers to sell their used discs. This is indeed a useful tool if you are upgrading your collection. These sets, on both Blu-ray and DVD start at around £14. All prices are accurate as of 09.08.11

Play.com

Like Amazon, Play.com has the complete selection of Blu-rays and DVDs, but these come with free post and packaging unlike Amazon where you have to select a longer delivery period to benefit from free delivery. Play offers the DVDS between £10 and £16, again depending on your preference of extended or theatrical edition box sets. Play falls down on the Blu-rays though. The theatrical editions are available from £15, but the extended version is on sale for £60, £18 more expensive than Amazon. Like Amazon, Play offers customers the chance to set up a selling account to sell off their existing copies. These prices start at £8 for the theatrical edition box set on DVD up to £49 for the extended Blu-rays. All prices are accurate as of 09.08.11

Ebay

Perhaps, the best option for a really cheap bargain is auction sites such as eBay. Looking at the completed auctions, only the DVD prices range between £12.50-£15 for the extended DVDs, and £9 for the theatrical edition box set. The theatrical edition box set on Blu-ray starts at £13 up to £16. All prices are accurate as of 09.08.11
