Where can I buy or rent recent DVD releases

Whether you prefer to buy or rent the latest DVDs, keeping up to date with the newest movies or TV series is easy. Online, through the post or from your local video store are three of the ways you can get your hands on the most wanted blockbusters.

Buying DVDs

With the popularity of online shopping, you no longer have to leave the house to buy the latest DVDs. Amazon is one of the biggest online retailers and has all the movies you could wish for. You can browse their top ten lists or search for a particular title. They also have the option of pre-ordering yet to be released titles ensuring the DVD will be delivered to you as soon as it is released. Play.com and Zavvi are other online retailers that specialise in home entertainment and have a huge selection of just released DVDs to choose from at discounted prices with free delivery on all items. The majority of UK high streets and shopping centres will have big name stores like HMV where you can buy the latest blockbuster releases from, although you may find they will be more expensive than online. They will stock the most recent DVDs and in most shops this will be immediately visible in the 'new releases' section or within the top twenty bestselling titles.

Renting DVDs

Lovefilm revolutionised the DVD rental market in the UK by enabling you to choose how many DVDs you want to rent and be delivered to your door each month. Now everyone from Blockbuster to Amazon to Tesco offer this service. Unlike the traditional video shop this way of renting movies means no late fees and no due dates, plus postage is paid, although you do have to pay a monthly fee. Renting movies to watch on your computer or to download for a fee has also become a popular and instant way of being able to watch the latest films without the frustration of the DVD you want not being in stock. If you have an iPhone or iPad and are away from home you can rent new movies from iTunes and watch them wherever and whenever you want. Lovefilm also has a large selection of recently released films that you can pay for and watch online. Lastly there are the traditional video shops, the most famous being Blockbuster, which you need to become a member of in order to rent DVDs. One of the advantages however of going to a shop to rent the latest DVD movies is you can buy snacks like popcorn at the same time.
