The pros and cons of pay-per-view movies

Pay-per-view movies are available through different providers. You can sit and watch a film from the comfort of your own home, but are they that good? This article will have a look at the pros and cons of pay-per-view movies.

The pros

Pay-per-view movies were made popular by Sky television. Pay-per-view films can be found in their box office service and enable you to choose from a variety of movies. The service enables you to order your films from the comfort of your own home letting you watch a film when you want to. Flexible viewing Pay-per-view movies can be watched any time. You can choose what time you wish to start the film and pause it when you want a break. The choice of genres is large and there's always something for everyone. Monthly costs Sky charges per film at a lower rate than purchasing a DVD. You pay for the film at the end of the month, so there’s no upfront payment. The charge per film is added onto your bill and your statement will show you what has been watched.

The cons

On the minus side, there doesn’t seem to be a wide choice of films any more and there does seem to be a delay in the availability for pay-per-view movies. Better on DVD? You might have already seen the films on DVD. Although, buying the DVD is more expensive, prices have come down and you don’t get any extras with pay-per-view. The making of documentaries and bloopers reels that you get on DVD add to their value. Downside to availability Pay-per-view movies aren’t always available when you want them. There could be up to a two-hour delay before it is shown again. Kids films are usually on in the day and adult at night so if you have a sleepless toddler, you probably won’t be able to find something suitable. Likewise, if you work nights, your selection won’t be great in the day. Mounting costs And finally, with pay-per-view, you usually have to pay a monthly fee as well as per film, so be aware of how many times you use this kind of service. If you are not careful, your bill can mount up very easily!
