All about Cheech and Chong's Nice Dreams (1981)

Cheech and Chong’s Nice Dreams (1981) is the third eponymous movie starring Richard Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong. Cheech and Chong’s fame lies in the nostalgia for the Marijuana imbibing era of the 1970s. They are still popular today because of an elder population which grew up with their musical and cinematic exploits, and are also loved by the young.

Marijuana ice cream

Cheech has created a stage and screen persona of a Mexican American character, which he uses successfully in order to provoke laughter. Cheech is 65 years old and was born in Los Angeles. Tommy Chong is a Canadian actor and musician. Tommy Chong is 73 years old now. Both have perfected a 'stoned' image or 'stoner' personality. The central theme in Nice Dreams is their 'get-rich' plan of selling marijuana from an ice cream truck.

Chicharrons Cheech

Cheech acquires his name from Chicharrons, a Chicano food made from pork skins. He has a Bachelor’s degree in English from California State University Northridge. Trying to escape from the fate of having to join the army during the Vietnam war, he landed in Vancouver where he met his future partner Tommy Chong. It was a slow rise from singing in bars and stand-up comedy routines. When they became famous, the movie offers followed too.

Seven Cheech and Chong movies

The Cheech and Chong Movies are seven in number. Tommy Chong has directed four of them. Their run of success lasted till 1985, when they split up for some years. Nice Dreams is one of their popular movies. The Loco weed-selling duo makes a fortune out of the marijuana ice cream stand, but they fall foul of the police and make a run for it in their ice cream truck, leading to some very funny and popular scenes.

Iconic duo

Cheech and Chong Torrent movies and audio albums have become iconic for people who long for the hippie culture and easy drug scene of the sixties and seventies in the United States of America. The duo patched up and began a successful tour of Canada and America. The senior comedians also have had a large hand in introducing new comedians to the world, one of the most famous being Pee Wee Herman. Their slapstick routine is still popular in night clubs which just proves that age has nothing to do with good humour.
